Marije De Haas
Marije joined the 2009 Andes Expedition, Cape Farewell's first expedition outside the Arctic, an 18 day trek through shrinking glaciers, cloud forests, lower forests, areas of deforestation and the Amazon.
"I think we are living in a very interesting time, we have reached a point where we need to rethink the way we do things. We have pushed our biological and economical boundaries to a breaking point and have left ourselves no choice but to respond. Cape Farewell has given me the opportunity to experience and learn from a 'climate-frontier' first hand with a bunch of extremely knowledgable people. I hope, as a result of this expedition, I help to raise awareness of the urgency of change, and also suggest some design solutions to the problems that face us."

Marije is part of the design collective Bullet, who, amongst other things, are responsible for most of Cape Farewell's visual communication. Additionally Marije is the creator of an ever-expanding print series 'pictolution'. Using everyday international symbols, she creates a new language by combining these symbols as a sort of graphic evolution experiment.
