Janna Levitt

Architect
Toronto-based architect Janna Levitt became involved with Cape Farewell as an invited participant of The Carbon 14 Workshop in November 2011. For Carbon 14: Climate is Culture she has collaborated with artist Myfanwy McLeod on a new project entitled Beekeeping for All. This project is concerned with the ways in which individuals and communities might work together in the common effort to achieve change, in this case specifically the fight against Colony Collapse Disorder as it effects bees, and, in general, other environmental issues including climate change.

Janna has a background in the visual arts, which continues to distinguish her architectural career. As a founding partner at LGA Architectural Partners she seeks opportunities to integrate art into the firm's projects and to collaborate with artists on installation based work. Her current projects include the new School of Architecture of the North in Sudbury for Laurentian University; the central branch of the Kitchener Public Library; the Toronto Media Arts Centre (TMAC) a media visual arts centre in downtown Toronto; and an extensive restoration landscape / residential project in Hoggs Hollow.

In addition to her architecture practice, Janna is active as a lecturer, critic, adjunct professor (at the University of Waterloo, Toronto and Halifax, Schools of Architecture) and jury member. She is a member of the National Steering Committee for the Canadian Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennial.
