Away with the Birds

Air falbh leis na h-eòin / Away with the Birds

By Hanna Tuulikki

Isle of Canna: 29-30 Aug 2014
Tramway, Glasgow: 19-20 Sept 2014

Hanna Tuulikki’s Air falbh leis na h-eòin is a body of work exploring the mimesis of birds in Gaelic song, developed as part of Cape Farewell's Sea Change programme.

On the 29th and 30th of August it became a sited performance on the beautiful Isle of Canna, performed in the harbour bay, where the music reverberates with the bird-calls and the ebb of the tide. The following month it migrated to Tramway in Glasgow, with performances on the 19th and 20th September.

The ambitious outdoor concert in Canna Bay was part of Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme, but for the tiny community of Canna it was the exciting culmination of a project conceived and created for the island over the last four years. As you can imagine, staging Away with the Birds in a remote location presented some unique challenges, but also some new opportunities for people to get involved beyond simply buying a ticket for the show.
